double head units
#1
A question froma novice.
I've just bought another car and it has the JDM double din kenwood unit it it. Obviously no FM reception so I need to change it. There are several choices open to me, one of which is I have a spare Kenwood CD/tuner and tape/tuner head units. Physically they would fit in the gap but is it possible / simple to wire the two in. Would one need to be a slave unit.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.
Thanks Obi

Obi,
you're right, one will be a slave to the other to coin a phrase. Take the preout from one of them and route it into the aux in of the other.
If you haven't got an aux in, you can use a CA-C1AX cable which'll rush you about 10-20 quid and routes the sound through your cd changer input. If you need a cd changer input too, either use the other head unit or get an KCA-S210A instead of the cable which'll allow you to connect a cd changer plus aux input.
Our you can buy a cd changer with built in aux input - the modern PS series of changers have this.
Cheers,
Nick.

Nick,
Thanks for the info. I'll probably try the S210a route as I want a CD changer as well and it sounds like you can control everything from a HU with a changer1/ changer2/aux facility.
This could be amusing.....!

Ok....sourced a HU from Google, now I've got to get the current unit out. In my previous Legacy it was simple, I started by removing the gear leaver surround and this revealed the next set of screws to remove the next bit of facia etc etc. In my new Legacy this doesn't appear to be so simple. Got the first bit of trim off but no screws in sight. How do you deal with the removal in a 2002/2003 Impreza...perhaps there's some clues for me.
