I have a totally standard radio with Alpine 6x9s in the rear and Alpine speakers and tweeters up front. My problem is after the engine warms up a loud ticking can be heard through the speakers which changes with the RPM of the engine. This ticking only occurs on radio not CD or tape. I have also noticed that the car when running also causes interference on the TV in the house! I had a Pioneer 8400 in the car with the same problem still there. My theory is, something in the car is generating an RF signal, be it the spark plugs or alternator I just dont know. Any advice would be much appreciated as its driving me MAD!

its all about your earthing. the noise can be cut down by running all earths to a centre point in the car away form other wire runs.

this problem usually crops up when amps are used.

in my last car i earthed every thing under the driver seat mounting bolt with a big crimp on ring connector

There's a handful of things it could be.

Stupid as it sounds, I had this problem and it was due to the location of my passive crossovers. They don't like being near the wiring loom in the driver's kickpanel.

It could be other things too, ht leads or ground loops leap to mind, or knackered RCA.

Hi guys,

Cured my interferance probs with a suppressor on the alternator, splitting the cable runs for the RCA's and power cables (n00b mistake, but hey ) and moving some of the speaker cables away from my IC water and fuel pump thats in the boot (took blumin ages to find that one!)
