Question

I know this isnt an ICE query, but didnt want to incurr the moderators wrath by putting this in the general forum!

I have a MY00 and am aware there are kits to reduce the cabin noise - how effective are these? I do mainly long motorway journeys so anything to make it quieter would be good. Also the doors buzz when the stereo is up loud - is this easy to sort out?
Thx, Simon

The soundproofing is very effective, yes.

And to stop buzzing, either turn it down or try packing the door cards out with 1 inch foam underneath.

Brooks...to simplify it...

Take a piece of aluminum foil and let it fly in front of a fan.It will make alot of noise flapping around. Now coat that foil with grease...try the fan again.Noise is gone. The foil becomes too heavy to flap around and generate noise.

Same with a car but on a much larger scale.

Thumbs up

just open my interior kit from noisekiller and first impressions are good. I wasn't going to start installing it until next week but i couldnt resist doing the boot lid and it took me about 30sec's to do.

Will let you know how the rest goes next week, One thing i will say is that I reckon the whole kits weighs over 25kgs so looks like i am going to have to shed some weight!

Sti4,

thanks for your reply. I would be very interested in your comments on:
a. ease of fitment
b. affect on cabin noise.
Good luck with the diet!
Simon.

ease of fitment - I'll take a guess on this one. It's easy, providing you've got the confidence to remove quite a bit of the interior (seats, carpets, ...)

The good news is that the new interior does come apart very easily (like the old one) and goes back together very well without rattles...

Yes it is reasonably easy to fit. Its a little bit harder than they say on the instructions. You really need to strip the seats and centre console and carpet out to do the job properly, It was ok for me as I was doing my install at the same time.
Could easily be fully fitted if you have a spare day.

The sound reduction is superb, At idle there wasn't much difference and I instantly thought what a waste of money but when on the move the results are outstanding. Unfortunately I can hearthe missus telling me to slow down. She even asked if I had changed the exhaust back to standard

I am in talks with noisekiller and may be becoming a fitter/supplier so may be able to offer some special rates to fellow scoob owners
