What Speakers for STI7?
#2
What budget are you thinking?
Also, I'd reckon on replacing the head unit as that is a crock of ****e. I've only replaced that so far, and even on the factory speakers the sound is significantly improved...

I guess something like upto about £80 for front speakers and I do want to replace the head unit with a single DIN unit MP3/CD, but I have no idea about the facia plate to blank the other DIN out and what head unit to go for.

For MP3 playback I can recommend what I went for - the KDC-PSW9524. At 365 quid it's the top of the kenwood range, but it is very, very good and rather bling! bling!
Speaker-wise, you'll get either 16 or 17s to fit, but you will need to make a mounting bracket for them out of 12mm mdf.
For slightly more (well, 50% more) than your budget, the Focal Access range are damn good. For 80 quid, I'm not sure what I'd go for to be honest.

In a word - depth.
You can fit some speakers without a bracket, but they'll need to be fairly shallow. You certainly won't get the focals in there. I believe the Infinity component range should work...

Just bought Infinity 605CS for the front bargin £69.99
This should give my great sound from the front and I can fit the tweeters too
What do you think of the Alpine CDA7893R head unit? I have been seen it for £250

I have the Alpine CDR7894, (ie silver finish). V V Good piece of kit.
I'm looking at either the Focals or the Genesis P16 at the mo for the front.
For the gap , either fit the tray from a Scoob Dealer -circa £15 or a SECS monitor

And another one, I have the Infinities in my STI7, and the mid range punch and general volume levels are not great.
I am running these directly off my Pioneer AVM 9000 unit, which I think is 45w per channel. Is this enough???
Do I need an amp as well to properly drive these Infinities?
Help would be appreciated here....
Thanks
Simon

I my experiance you always get better results running from an AMP. You would be surprised. Do you have any idea which ones you have and if they fitted straigt into the old ports. Also what do you have in your rear doors?

Infinity 605cs's in the fronts. Needed to make 12mm spacer rings to go in between speakers and door.
In the rears, good question, if I recall correctly, they are JBL's, not sure though as at the time I was concentrating on the front components more than anything.
That all said, I have never been impressed with the sound output, but never really got round to putting it right. I only take the car out at weekends so it's not as if it is something I have to live with daily. But as it's summer, I will no doubt be getting it out in the evenings now and would like the benefit of a decent sounding system. Especially as I have already got the speakers that should give this sound.
Right, what amp....

Hi,
Can I jump on this thread please ...?
Just picked an STI 7 and am thinking about ICE for it too.
I had an old Clarion 7370 Head unit and a Rockfort amp powering a 12'' sub whilst running with the OEM speakers (plus two tweeters) in my old MY00 wagon - sounded PDG! My preferred music is like Steve A's - Rock as opposed to dance - deep rumbling bass, not so punchy!
I'm not too keen on putting the sub in my new car - boot as opposed to 5th door restricts the space anyway - but am keen to get better (though not as much as the sub obviously!) bass than the OEM speakers - these distort it seems very easily at a bit of volume and bass ... Can anyone suggest replacement speakers that will cope well for this purpose? Is it worth trying to change the back speakers only for this purpose and then the fronts with, say the Infinity as they seem to fit as described above with the minimum of fuss and are clear, tight sounding, but not bassey ... or doesn't it work like that?
Any comments gratefully received.
Thanks
Steve

I had Infinity's for 12 months, running off a good head unit and was dissapointed.
Added an amp a month ago and the difference is unbeleivable - sound like different speakers - really.
Then added a 12" sub - but that's another story....
The biggest difference was adding the amp. The sub does what I expect the amp alone did much more than I expected - if you see what I mean!
Cheers
