MY96 - What is the mounting depth
#1
I am looking to fit some new component speakers in the front doors of my UK MY96. I understand that the mounting depth is less than on the later cars. Is this true?
Also what would be a good speaker to go for in the £100-170 price range (Would prefer some that are easy to fit!!).
And one more question - where should I mount the tweeters??!!
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

If the speaker collar and mounting is the same as my my98, which i'm pretty sure is, the you've got about 5cm depth to play with before u need to make your own mdf collar to sit on the existing plastic one to ensure clearance.
The best thing to do is to take off the door panel, remove the plastic collar and take it into the shop and try putting speakers into it. Infinity 605 drop in with no problem by all accounts (about 90 quid?). The other thing that you'll be able to test is the basket; some of the higher end speakers have a deeper basket and the plastic collar may not take these.
For the price range you mentioned, i'd go fro boston acoustics - the fs series which are superb (about160). As far as tweeter positioning goes, i have put mineon thr triangle behind the wing mirrors to lift imaging a bit.
cheers
