mounting an amp MY01
#1
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to mount a 4 channel amp on the back of my backseat.
I want to keep the hatch useful
Can I screw it directly to the back of the seat ? This worked with a CD changer, but the amp it significantly heavier, and the screws are really puny!
Or do I need to screw a sheet of mdf to the back of the seat and then the amp to that - if so how do I attach the MDF to the back of the seat?
Please feel free to respond in terms an idiot can understand....
Cheers
Chris

Using some chunky self tappers I'd screw a piece of MDF to the back of the seats (this reduces the chances of the amp picking up interference, due to being screwed directly to the metal seat back) then mount the amp to this.

Thanks for the advice.
I've got the right sized bit of MDF cut, what are toggle screws ?
I've searched the web - but the devices that show up like :
How does one of these help - wouldn't a self taper into the holes be the same - or have I missed something fundamental ?
Perhaps when I pull the grey trim off the back of the seat it'll all make sense - or I'll nail it on!
Cheers

A toggle bolt looks like this:
I wasn't happy drilling the back of the seats or happy that screws in the metal would hold the amp and the MDF securely enough. Also the screws will stab your passengers in the back if you're not careful.
These bolts can be had from any hardware store. They are normally used for cavity wall fixing.
