my local dealer has recommended alpine7893r head unit(although i've have no mp3 format to play yet)and an infinity baselink x. he also recomended leaving standard speakers until i had installed/listened to head and bass unit.

Can't fault the hu mate, got this one myself and it is very good spec for the monet - you should be able to get it for £250 no problems. I generaly tend to use high street stores rather than virtual ones - if you look around you will be able to find somewhere that will match internet prices. I got a local dealer to match the price of MCS for the 7893 with little problem. Have used letsbuycaraudio.com and found them good - i don't think the market allows for dodgy dealers anymore!
I presume the infinity is a bass tube or something? I'm not too up on their stuff, but they do make good components (for front/rear).
