Suppressors????
#1
O.K, this is a new term to me so go easy on the technicalities!!!
Got a DVD player in my car and there is a whinning noise coming through the speakers when its playing. This noise varies in accordance to my speed. Been told to get a suppressor from Maplins as this will sort my problem out. Any ideas what to do? How to fit it? (im running an amp)
PS the whinning noise is NOT a Shania Twain cd!!

Hullo
A suppressor is an inline filter, which attempts to smooth the power supply to whatever it is you've got connected up. What you're trying to beat is the slightly-varying power feed from the alternator (or noise pick-up from dodgy spark plug leads) which has found its' way onto the power feed to your DVD player.
If this is your problem, then putting a suppressor onto your power feed to the DVD (as close as possible to the player) _should_ crack it.
But, more likely is that the earth point on the DVD player is at a very slightly different voltage to the earth point to the rest of your system. IMHO, you'd be better off by first making sure your DVD player earths to the same point as the amps in your system (even if this means running a cable the length of the car )
If that doesn't work, feel free to invest in a suppressor.
Good luck
