will for example, a kenwood equaliser fit into a clarion head unit or does it have to be from the same brand?

Yes, thats why you see so many (if not all) show cars with them. Only problem is setting the damn things up right... I'd only use it if you need a bit of balancing (like reducing the mid range) or want a bit of show (like me!! - g320). Best listen, and see (???!!) if you think the sound needs ajusting.
