I just called in at my local ICE installer and he was pushing a brand called Cerwin-Vega. Imported from the california. He was suggesting a fairly hefty price for them, but in return very good sound quality.
Does anyone have any experience of this stuff?

They make some pretty awesome disco speakers. My brother used to have a set and said the bass was unbeatable. No idea what their car gear is like, but I imagine it'll be pretty good too. They've been on the go for a long time as he had those speakers 15 yrs ago !!!

As you mentioned, its californian - US gear. Popular in the US and used in a lot of show cars. Best have a look at some of the american sites and mags to find out more; I had Atomic fronts a while ago and they were quite bright - tipical of american taste as opposed to more laid back sound you'll find over here. Let your ears and wallet guide you...

Cerwin Vega! make good stuff. Listen first, but it's a nice sound overall. Really generalising here, but it's a ballsy sound, but not as ballsy as say Rockford Fosgate.
Subs are good for SPL. Musically they're not bad, but most if not all Cerwin Vega! based sub installs that I've heard have been by out and out bass heads.

Ive got two 12"HED subs and the HED components in a MY02 with the 3204 amp.
This setup sounds great IMO, wouldnt say for bass heads only though I thought that would be the fusion gear that blew me away.
Like everything it depends on how you set it all up, I listen comfortably on week days on my way to work then make small adjustments for some serious bass at the weekend.
Installed a Rockford 705amp into a Pug the other day and the owner preferrs my setup over this.
I can get some pics if you want.
Cheers

a while ago... some nutter called Adam who works for few car mags and does the sound off's decided to connect a stroker 18" to the biggest PA amp he could find to see if it could handle it... I seem to remember it had circa 200 volts across the voice coil before it let go..

If your looking for SPL, Cerwin Vega will be around the best out there, but for quality, another brand could be more appropriate. My advice, Rockford Fosgate or Cerwin Vega and u wont go far wrong !

Not really related to the original post but some time back a friend of mine used to have a set of CV1515 running off of 2 x Denon monoblocs; in his bedroom
They stood 5ft high and each speaker contained 2 x 15" drivers.
Boy did the whole house shake
