CD Multi Changers
#1
I've got an STi7 with the Type A Head Unit and am after a compatible CD Multi Changer. Will any unit work, or do I have to ensure compatibility with the head unit?
Any pointers / recommendations and guide prices appreciated.
Cheers,
Nick

Isn't the STI 7 headunit a Kenwood job? If so, then a Kenwood changer would work.
You can't mix 'n match manufacturers when it comes to changers as they all use different protocols.

You'll probably have to get one of those intermediatry dongles so that the headunit protocols get converted to the changer protocols.
If you can get hold of one that is. Just had a look on a few audio sites, and can't seem to see any for Scoobs

Not sure. The unit that is in the car is 99 spec. Most manufacturers will make sure any changers that are produced after it are backward compatable.
You may well find any Kenwood changer works.
I have a 6 disk unit anyone can have for free (+ p&p). One of the mounting brackets is broken, but I'm sure you could get it replaced, or make something to fit. It is a CDR\RW unit, and comes free with 6 disks that I forgot to remove when it was powered up.

Defo Kenwood head unit in the Sti7 - I have a Kenwood 6 disc changer added to it. Can recommend the Subaru bracket to hold it in the boot so you don't have to drill anything it just bolts in BUT it is expensive at about £70 although I do think it helps to prevent skipping!
Hope this helps

Can vouch again, its def a Kenwood head unit and the best changer to fit is a KDC-717 I think, and the cheapest place is £125.00 inc vat & del, go to www.mcs-direct.co.uk

Hmm, best changer to fit if you were looking to the future would be one of the PS range (Performance Series). Won't give you anything extra quality-wise on the standard setup, but if you replaecd the head unit, speakers, added amps, ... you'd have the basis of a great system. My CD changer is the KDC-803 from 1995, and it's still going great guns...
I suppose it depends if you're likely to change it all again in the future, but personally I'd get the best changer now.

Is the Subaru bracket just for the Kenwood unit or will it fasten anything in? I'm thinking of sticking my Sony CDX-71 (AFAIR) 10-disc in an my02 at some point...
thanks
