I've just popped a 300w SPLx 12" sub(9 months old), my ice dealer says he is sending it back to SPL but he can't promise anything, meaning that i may not get a replacement. He claims it's been driven too hard. I fitted the amp he supplied and he set up, if he says no to replacement, do i have a leg to stand on? legaly speaking?

Brun, if he set it up I'd complain like buggery to that effect. Legally, I dunno - speak to your citizen's advice bureau.

The worst way to knacker a sub is to put a signal into it that is clipping. Your amp may be too small for the sub, or the gain set too high so that the output is going DC. This causes the voicecoil to heat up really rather quickly and fries subs.

Another possibility is that it could be your headunit outputting DC. This is more likely if you are using speaker level inputs, but if you're using RCAs then you're probably better protected.

The shop supplied the amp, and set the gain on it, the imput is the RCA. I think if i had bought from Halfords it would have been changed no questions asked, but because its a small private shop, they are gonna dig their heels in. Ba5tard5

That's the problem, i can't prove anything, i just think the whole thing stinks. Bet if i bought it at Halfords i'd have a new sub straight away. The amp is a Power Acoustik, i'll have to find the box for the stats.

because of all the different possibilities, it'll be difficult for you to prove it's their fault.

Out of good customer service it is in their interest to sort you out...
