Hi all,

The radio reception in my scooby has never been very good, so I decided to try and sort it.

I fitted a signal booster to the aerial, which helped a lot, but it's still not the best.

It's running a Pioneer SPH Da110 head unit

I drive a 2003 STi Impreza if that helps...

 

The aerial is integral to the windscreen. Underneath the rear headlining is a power signal amplipher.

From the OEM radio connector, there is a white (white/black) lead (no 14). This powers the aerial amp. From your aftermarket HU loom, you need to ensure that the remote aerial/external power lead is connected to this.


If not, it won't power the aerial amp and you'll get no signal. If it is connected and you've checked it with a multimeter, then you have a fault with the amp or a break in the wires somewhere.

What signal booster have you fitted?

 

Probably as above but another thing that can cause problems is Power splitters plugged into the lighter socket. I had a 4 way splitter so I could charge phones, run sat nav etc at the same time and it caused no end of problems.

I've not added any power splitters or interfered with the electronics in any other way, apart form the signal booster (which is an eBay special :|)

I'll take the head unit out, and see if the power aerial wire is supplying anything in the OEM plug. I've got a feeling that the wire didn't go to anything, so I might need to swap the wire to another pin in the plug (the one that powers the OEM aerial).

You can just get a length of wire and extend the power aerial lead, then cut into the OEM wire, if getting pins to connect is an issue (or the ISO connector doesn't align).

Just leave enough length on the OEM loom so you can reconnect the wire if ever you want to go back to stock.

 

Easiest way is connect the blue 12v accessory wire on the stereo to white wire on cars loom this powers the aerial amp

 

I've just checked the car, and the power antenna lead goes to pin 14 (white) on the OEM connector.

So I assume that power is reaching the OEM signal booster. Although there isn't anything going to pin 6 on the original connector.

 

I may be wrong on colour just trying to remember the colour as I had this issue some years back.
Could possibly be white and black.
Id try that wire that's blank anyway

 

Cheers mate, you reckon remove the power antenna pin in the connector and place it where the one that doesn't have one is?

 

No there is a 12v wire that's not in the connector that powers amps etc I'd place this in the blank slot and try that

 

Where abouts is the 12v wire located?

I have the exact same connector. I've plugged the blue wire which was loose (like the one in the link) into the 'power antenna' wire that goes to pin 14 on the OEM connector (white wire)

 

I don't have a loose power wire but can cut into the blue and piggy back. the only bit I'm stuck with is this pin 14 white wire. Can anyone confirm is pin 14 last wire on bottom right of the connector - I have a grey wire on mine
