Acoustic carpet
What is acoustic carpet used for in a car audio upgrade?
What role, if any, would it have to play when making an acoustic shelf for some 6x9's? (it's not in a scooby btw)

Acoustic carpet for car use is just for cosmetic use, covering speakers box's etc. Proper acoustic carpet tiles were for use on recording studio walls etc.
If your worried about acoustics then dont use 6 x 9's in the rear shelf. Front and rear components will create a much better sound stage.

Thanks for explaining. No, I'm not really worried about acoustics. I just saw reference to acoustic carpet when I was skimming through some threads elsewhere and thought I'd better check that I wasn't making some unforgivable mistake by just using black fabric from the local craft shop.
It's not a serious install anyway, I'm just tinkering about with a Citroen C1 that is off the road until our next kid is old enough to learn to drive. Once in a while I drive it to keep things from seizing up but the standard audio is abysmal. There are new dash & door speakers in it so I'm just trying the 6x9's in the shelf to see if it helps with a little bit of depth. Just trying to cobble something together with what I have lying about.
