B4 i start please excuse my lack of knowledge

I see from various magazine reviews and adverts that a lot of headunits that have cd capabilities can now play Mp3

How are these played?
R the MP3 files downloaded onto a cd and if so is this done from a pc

I have a diamond rio MP3 player so am used to lifting tracks from my cd`s onto my rio player, i`m just not sure (infact i have no idea) how these are played in car

Also how much storage can the mp3 hold?

any advice would be gratefully accepted

Gregarious

Thumbs up

Assuming you mean a CD player type MP3 player, not a hard disk based one . . . .

You write the MP3's to CD-R's using your PC. Depending on the size of the CDR you will get 650Mb or 700Mb. If you work on the basis of approx 4Mb per song then thats . . . erm . . . lots.

You can store the MP3's on CD's in folders pertaining to albums or perhaps genres. They are written to a CD in the same way as you would write normal data to a disk, such as spreadsheets, images etc.

You can get over 11 hours of music on one CD at a good quality.

Recently bought a Kenwood MP3 headunit ( CD type) cost £240.00 ..... I have one disc that has got 244 songs on it , and with the possibilities of different folders containing different Albums/genres ..... Who needs a multi-changer ?? ... Very impressed with the MP3 capabilities, And you can still play CD's ...... My advice is go and get one !!

Nate.

MP3 is the name for the compression applied to the data to allow much more information (music) to be stored in the same size space (in this case a cd. As it is more compressed it wont sound quite as good as cds will - but unless you have lots of expensive ICE you probibly wont notice much difference. You cant buy MP3 discs, so dont get one unless you can copy files from your PC to a disc.

I got a Kenwood mp 6090 which set me back about £200. The sounds quality is pretty good and you can put on about 200 songs on one disc. sometimes, it takes time to access tracks, but generally, it does the trick and i think good value for money. give us a shout if you need any more info
