Default 2nd KYB AGX adjustable dampers group buy

I have spoken to Carl from www.buyparts.co.uk and they are willing to supply the KYB AGX adjustable dampers (just dampers only, no springs) for the same price as the last group buy which took part 6 months ago!

The shocks come with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty and have 4 adjustment settings on the fronts and 8 on the rears.
For further details see http://www.kyb.com/products/detail.php?ID=4.

The price per strut is £65.83 +VAT and delivery is an extra £5.50 +VAT, i.e. £315.87 for a full set delivered to your door. This is a bargain price, and a saving of at least £62 (20%) over the next cheapest competitor.

Payment will be made to www.buyparts.co.uk, and all the orders will be despatched once all payment has been received.

In order to have these special reduced prices, we need to have order at least 5 sets, if you are interested please add your name to the list below.

Note that this group buy is for shocks for the classics only, KYB do not currently import the AGX type shocks for new age versions into the UK (only the non-adjustable type).

Aparently the fronts are adjustable from under the bonnet, and the rears are adjusted by a dial on the side of the units (which is a bit awkward to get to).
Someone had some photos up of how to adjust them, but has now taken them down. I have asked them to put the photos back up, or email them to me and I will host them on one of our servers.

I have just found this link to a cross section of the damper units:
http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/images/AGX.gif

Fitting instructions (probably a bit premature for this info!):
http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346
They are easy to do, just a bit time consuming. Just remember to mark where the adjustable camber bolts are before you take them off, so at least they are somewhere near when you put them back in!

Im a bit of a newb with these so...

how good are these?
Can you use the original springs/other parts etc and just replace the dampers with these?

Well they are gas rather than oil which I have always thought were better - for one they can't see a gas leak on your MOT!!
The adjustability will allow you to change how hard the dampers are for normal/motorway cruising/track days.

They are equivalent fitment to the original dampers, so you can use your original springs if you want to. Personally I'd recommend upgrading the springs also, the Eibach prosprings (which I already have) are a popular choice to go with these dampers.

If you want to know more details on how these perform, see the write ups from people who bought them in the first group buy:

thanks, I'd appreciate the comments.
I'll have to get some more links to this page from the suspension section and also add links from other bbs's. Take up is a bit slow at present and I could do with them now!!

this may seem like a stupid question but would they lower the car at all? i know it's mainly down to the springs but are these any different to the standard dampers? (apart from the adjustability )

Nope, AFAIK these dampers are dimensionally the same as the standard items hence they would not lower your car.
Lowered / uprated springs can be bought at a reasonable price off here second hand, I picked up a set of Eibach's for £90 and a friend has just bought some for £75.

If you also need springs, let me know and I'll see if I can arrange a group discount for those as well.

Just another two sets to go - thanks!

I have just sent an email to Carl and asked him if they do Eibach's, if not I'll try one of the other suppliers I know.

Just realised I got the website address wrong, it should be http://www.buypartsby.co.uk I missed the 'by' part off the end!
They even have a pic of the KYB AGX shocks next to a blob eye scoob, yet don't carry the parts!

I'm impressed, we have enough people already!!

I've just phoned up buypartsby again (the guys who we are doing this group buy with) and have given them the part numbers mmmiddy quoted for the new age imprezas and they are available!

They are however a bit dearer than the classic versions:
The price per front strut is £98.00 +VAT and the backs are £89.30 +VAT and delivery is an extra £5.50 +VAT, i.e. £446.62 for a full set delivered to your door.
This is a good price, I phoned up Camskill and they offer them at £515 for a set (£68 - 15% more) though they may be able to offer a discount if a number of people are interested in them.

So if you want KYB AGX's for your bug/blob eye then please add your name to this list.

For the rest of us classic owners, please phone up bypartsby on 01159 835280 and ask to speak to Nathan (Carl is on holiday all week!), give him your payment details and mention you are calling as part of the Scoobynet group buy and when five people have placed their orders the goods will be despatched.
This group buy will be kept open for a month, so if others are interested you can phone them and take advantage of the group buy discount (just remember to mention you are calling as part of the Scoobynet group buy).

buypartsby do not stock Eibach unfortunately BTW!

MMM Tempted! I have a set of the AGX KYB Adjustables with Eibachs on my MY93 WRX and they are the business - together with the droplinks and other suspension mods it handles beautifully!

I have a knock in the rear suspension of my STi5 Type R which is proving impossible to trace - looks as if it may be internal in the dampers! So going to swap the rears from the WRX to the Type R - if that cures it I will be up for a set for my Type R.

Is there a closing date for this group buy?

Just phone up bypartsby on 01159 835280 and ask to speak to Nathan, give him your payment details and mention you are calling as part of the Scoobynet group buy.

When five people have placed their orders the goods will be despatched, it depends on how quick everyone is at paying (it could delay things if people pay by cheque)! I'm hopeing to fit them this weekend also.

Please write PAID next to your name when you have done so so we can get an idea of when they will arrive. When five have paid I'll pester them for delivery!

I have rung up Gordon at www.motorsportworld.co.uk and he is able to offer us the following prices:

Eibach Pro-kit springs to suit classic impreza's
5+ sets £162.63 ea (inc. VAT and delivery)
10+ sets £150.59 ea (inc. VAT and delivery)

There is also another group buy which I helped organising for whiteline chassis products from Demon Tweeks which now also includes the Eibach products.
Their price is £161 including VAT and delivery, so it depends on how many people you think are interested in these as to where is the best place to get them from.

If you are interested in some, can I suggest that we start another list? Maybe on a seperate thread?

d'oh, would of liked to have got them done this weekend

I have just phoned Subaru and they are after £13+VAT for the rubber washer type things that fit above the front shocks - I know mine are a bit worn.
I'm wishing now I bought a pair of 2nd hand ones off ebay which went for £2.20+P&P!

Is there anyone interested in the springs?
I can recommend them, quite a bit harder than the OEM ones, but at least they are more progressive than normal coil overs.
Just remember the long ones go on the back, not the front as I tried to fit them!!
