Group Buy On TD05 Repair Kits
Hi guys, don't know if any of you are in a similar position (or hope to be) but i have a FETD05 ready to be fitted to my car - vastly of an unknown origin. I plan to take it to pieces and give it a minor overhaul just so i know it's 100% before i bolt it to my car.
I have been in touch with Chris Littlewood at Melett with regards to the costs involved with purchasing their TD05 (Minor) Repair Kit. He has quoted me a price of £44 individually or £33 if we were to order 5-10.
Just to clarify this repair kit is the one featured in the PDF on this page (click the TD05 link for the PDF). Part number 1401-405-750.
I have little idea regarding postage at the moment but hope to sort this out on my return back to dry land on the 21st of September. In the meantime... is there any interest in such a buy? We only need five for a fairly substantial saving.

NOTE:
Carl, from what I remember, the minor kit includes the 270 degree Thrust Bearing. might be better to get them replaced with the 360 degree kit as well as the seals as most cars running the F/E TD05 will run more boost than standard.
Plus the removal of the compressor wheel to strip it down will more or less mean it requires a balance once rebuilt!
Think it over M8.

Hey Russ. Havin' a good trip mate?
Good idea with regards the 360 deg thrust bearing. Will email Melett again once i'm home to recalculate the price with those included.
I shall have to enquire as to whether or not Scotia Helicopters are equiped with such balancing equipment. Failing that who would you suggest?
I'm not overly worried about taking it to bits, i've always wanted to see what they're like inside and the old man is more than competent to aid if/when i get stuck. It may cost a few £'s more than the £33 GB price once balanced etc but at least then i know i'll have a 100% turbo on my car and no niggling worries.
You not fancy a couple of kits?

I'm going to look into the balancing side of things a little more shortly. According to this thread on 22B there doesn't appear to be too much of an issue. However, i'm still going to research it some more.
Russ, i know you've reconditioned one of these units before. If you can divulge did you use the marks or have it balanced elsewhere?

Looks as though the standard TD05 repair kits use a 360 degree thrust bearing anyway lol... They offer an uprated bearing but it's £125.
The TD05 turbo has a 360 degree thrust bearing as standard and the kits are 360 degree ones but in standard form.
The upgraded 360 degree kits come with special thrust parts and the price of these are £125.00 each. basically they are a thrust system which will take higher loading for competition use.

None as yet. I have booked a date for my car to be mapped now so am not planning on taking my turbo to bits unless it breaks. Will still be buying a kit for that eventuality or incase i find a cheap (yeah right ) TD05 i can play with...
Everyone else still interested? Russ, i've just gotten back from Edinburgh and in all honesty had forgotten about ringing you mate. Is it too late to call now or perhaps tomorrow morning?

I've talked to a few people and don't think the balancing is such an issue as getting the tolerances correct when re-assembling. Either way mine is getting stuck on as it is for now. I have 30 days to fit everything before the re-map so no time to rebuild lol...
I presume you still want your 2 kits Bob, i'll hazard a guess Russ is still guaranteed so that just leaves tronlc to confirm?
