Oil Catch Can/Tank Kit by Helix
Hello,
I know I have not posted much on ScoobyNet but rest assured I have over 500 posts on another Impreza site and have owned my car for 6 months (and LOVE it!)
I have been interested in the catch can idea after I took my breather hoses off and found a surprising amount of oil. As you know this goes on the engine side of the air filter and so goes straight onto your MAF (Phase 2) and into the engine (Phase 1 & 2)
If you look at the below link it shows how the system works:
http://img42.photobucket.com/albums/...n/Can_Desc.jpg
Quote from GReddy: “Oil Catch Tank catches the oil and moisture in the blow-by gas that causes carbon and sludge build-up in the intake system and the engine. It keeps the engine clean even under hard driving conditions. It is also an excellent engine dress up item that gives a racecar look. Polished aluminum body with sight glass.”
I have sourced a suppler from UK who can supply a group buy of the following kit:
You can pay the suppiler in the UK who will ship to each person individually! (will be a lot quicker than the orignal Jap supplier)
Instead of paying over £150 the cost has also come down!!! £70 all in per can (inc VAT and Postage) All we need is 10 people min... which we have!
There is a slight change in can but looks better as you can take this one apart to clean the oil out...

A quick summary:
After 7 hours we have 7 people interested so the price is down to £84/£85
8 more and we can get it down to £72/£73
Going well so far
P.S. Hi Chris... do you remember me from POD last weekend? I was looking very tired and with Elisa and Chirs.

Hi people,
count me in if we get down to the bottom line price wise, another bit of shiney stuff in the engine bay cannot go amiss specially if it does some good as well.
PM me when you know more as probably wont be logging on for a few days.

Hi P20SPD,
Thank you for your interest and information. I have spoken to Mark at Lateral Performance who's stanard selling price is £75+VAT+P&P = £88.12(ex P&P) He has also said that due to his small proffit margin he will not be able to give us a major discount. I will be sent some prices to see if he can beat the price so I can provide the lowest to everyone.
Currently with 11 people we are looking at £76/£77 but I am sure we can get 15 people so that will be £72/£73 including VAT and Postage (Via Recorded or Special Delivery)
I am personally very sure this is a rock bottom price and will not be beaten.
If you have any further questions about the supplier please feel free to PM me.
Regards,
Tim

now forgive my ignorance.
but, isnt this a diy job with a metre of B&Q's finest, a small screw and an old can of (insert favourite colour scheme here)?
sum total of all parts approx £6.
I could be wrong of course and often am.
also, theres a lot to be said of r a nice shiney new kit rather than a shytey piece of rubber tubing and a sprite tin.
I think the big horsepower boys discussed it on this thread
Im not trying to cause a ruckuss, just a much cheaper way of doing things.
of course, if its a totally different part then wont I look silly *again*

Fare comments... Personally which do you preffer...
Coke bottle:

OR Shiny metal:
http://www56.homepage.villanova.edu/...s/IMG_3024.jpg
I know that style is not everything and I would be worried about trying to seal the coke bottle with all the holes in it. Also what about heat? Surely the coke bottle could suffer under the heat from the engine?
Personal choise I guess but if you want one put your name down.

Thank you Si I will add his name to my list, keep they comeing!
I HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS!!!!!
I have been in discussion with a number of suppiers and have been able to greatly improve the service. Instead of me collecting money, then sending it to Japan, then getting the cans to my house, then sending them to you all. (Takes a lot of time)
You can pay the suppiler in the UK who will ship to each person individually! (will be a lot quicker)
AND the cost has also come down!!! £70 all in per can (inc VAT and Postage) All we need is 10 people min... which we have!

I will put the list of names online tonight so people can confirm if they are happy with the change.
Many thanks,
Tim

Tim, no probs re Mark, just thought i would suggest it to possibly save the hassle of importing.
The last picture you posted is the same as the one supplied by Gruppe S, which i have, and it works very well.
