Hi All

Put your name down on this thread to show interest in taking part in a group buy for the GEMS ECU.

Some of the best features about the GEMS is it's antilag feature and the provision to run launch control and an active diff (if you have the adjustable centre diff like 22B or Type R coupe).
It also uses the original wiring loom.

Available for the following MY Impreza's

Gems ECU MY93-96
Gems ECU MY97-98
Gems ECU MY99-00
Gems ECU MY01>

I am expecting around the same prices as on Windows thread but waiting for Steve Simpson to come back to me.

Cheers

John,

Was speaking to Steve today and this group buy doesn't have to be only Impreza's
I would stick a post up on the MLR and any other sites you can think of.
I got a couple of e-mails from some lads with EVO's wanting to take part in the first group buy.

Hi
I am interested in a GEMS unit and mapping - assuming this is done by Steve Simpson. Would want a GEMS suitable for P1. Other posts by Chris at G-Force mention £1500 as the list price. What is the type of price for the group buy?

Does the above options include the P1 for Gems remap (already fitted with water spray)?
What is the expected close date and mapping timescale?
If P1 with upgraded TMIC plus exhaust and intake mods (APS) is OK then I'm in. I would also like to do this by Feb end if possible. If other mods required to get the best from Gems apart from above on P1 please can Steve post
Thanks

Hi Maca

Yes the above options include the P1
Steve will map your car to the give the best possible gains from the modifications you have made already.
You can pay the full amount or send a cheque for 50% of the group buy price (but wait till we have the 15 confirmed orders first)
Steve will contact us to arange fitting and mapping after he has received payment (either full or 50%) from the 15

Best regards

Steve,

The GEMS ECU is a complete ECU change.
The processor in the GEMS is quicker over most other processors fitted to other aftermarket ECU's,
This and the options of ALS, alternate fuel octane map, water spray control and launch control make it possibly the best ECU on the market for the Impreza/EVO/Porsche etc

Steve Simpson is one of the best mappers in the UK/World.
He has fitted and mapped "more" than hundreds of rally cars.
These cars do very well in the rallies , usually taking first place or second or third (only because of a puncture )

Steve actually bought and fitted/mapped over 100 GEMS ecu's last year alone, making him GEMS's second biggest customer, the biggest being Prodrive.

Just speak to some of the lads in the first group buy who have the GEMS fitted, they will tell it was worth it

I would say sell the TEK3 and go for the GEMS, I'm sure you will see a big difference

Hi,
Couple of Questions:
Is the Gems OBD2 compliant? Will the garage be able to use Subaru diagnostic equipment to check the engine over?
Does it support things like warnings for failures in systems such as ABS/ sensors/ oil pressure, etc?
Are all ECU supported functions still in place? eg Air conditioning

Is there immobiliser/ security functionality built into the standard ECU or is this a seperate system ? - this will impact costs and insurance if it needs to be added back in.

I would like to maintain the dealer servicing this car and keep the standard alarm/ immobiliser - hence the questions.

Maca

Subaru diagnostic reader will not work - you read the sensors with a lap-top with GEMS software. This reads far more than the Subaru Select Monitor but you will need to purcahse GEMS software and comms lead (£175 + VAT).ABS is separate diagnostics so will still work. Std ECU does not have oil pressure sensing anyway. A/C still works. There is an immobiliser built into GEMS -it is enabled thru lap-top so again you need software. Your std immobiliser should still work as this is not linked to ECU.

Best regards

Will this be like the first buy..... only supplied and mapped not supply only? Would be interested in a supply only price if possible.

Cheers,

Tony.

Hi Tone,

This will be the same as the first group buy, mapping is included in the price.

A company in the US has got in touch expressing interest in buying 10 units and flying Steve out to the US to tune them.
Thers is also a Group Buy thread now running on the MLR in the group buy section.
Will keep the thread updated on current events

Happy New Year, all the best for 2004

Nevermind.... some of us do want to map ourselves tho. I tried contacting Gems direct but they were only interested in giving me Steve's details. Guess i'll stick with the Link for now.

Hi Tony,

You can map it yourself no problem.
Steve can supply you with the GEMS software.

But i'd be paying for Steve to map it won't i? If you add on the cost of the sofware and vat it actually works out more expensive than a MoTec M4 Pro (including harness adaptor just over £1600, Gems inc vat/software £1650).

Advantage i guess is that Steve is just down the road from me and i'd get a very good map to work from in the future....

Hi Tony,

Only thing I can suggest is you contact Steve and ask if he would consider doing a group buy for the GEMS supplied only with software.
I have asked for the first group buy and his reply was that GEMS UK are very keen to ensure that all road car's are correctly mapped and therfore they will only entertain a group buy which includes supply/fit and mapping of the GEMS.
I'm not asking him again sorry.

If you know of a supplier who can supply the GEMS only let us know.
It would have cost you just under £2000 for the GEMS including vat and software!!

Just out of interest Tony do you know someone who can map the GEMS if you did just get the ECU?

Hi,

I know a couple of people, one very local to me (who it seems got an additional 20 lb/ft of torque from the orginal map.... not sure if it was Steve that mapped this) but to be honest i'd be doing it myself. I'll send Steve an e-mail and see what he says.

Cheers,

Tony.
