Coolant temp too hot, but the heater only cold air
my friend has a problem on his MY94 EJ20G Impreza.
The engine coolant temp gets too hot, even at idle.
the gauge needle goes not to the limit but higher than normal.
the air vents at the radiator are ok and are running.
the hose at the radiator top is warm, not hot, and the second
hose at the down side of the radiator is cold.
in the interior, the heater brings just a few seconds little warm air,
the the air is cold all the time. the two hoses that goes to the interior
for the heating are both cold too.
the headgaskets are ok, no smoke or something at the backbox.
sorry for my english
what could it be?

The heater circuit is a full flow bypass system and cabin air temperature controlled by hot/cold air mixing flaps.
If the heater pipes are cold and the coolant is getting too hot, then it would suggest either the thermostat isn't opening and /or the water pump is not doing its job.
There's a slim chance you only have an airlock.

as daz says, it needs burping through the header tank.
when cold remove the header tank cap, turn heater to hot with fan full on and run the car until its up to temp and you will see the bubbles coming out through the header tanks.
when they stop, top up if needed and replace cap.
