hi guys im wondering if anyone can help me i have a 2001 impreza sport special which had the engine damaged due to driving through a fords i didnt relise was 2 and a half foot deep i have stripped the car inside and out cleaned everything and refited it the engine is nackered so i bought a replacment not thinking i bought a 1998 impreza sport engine i have tried to fit it and found that it is not the same there are quite substantial diferences between the 2 so now i am stuck with a car with no engine and an engine that wont fit can anyone help me i have tried changing intake manifold theres are different im at a los can anyone help me as need to get the car sorted and running again if at all posible any help greatly apriciated

There were two types of engine for for the classic sport, phase 1 up until 98 and then after that they fitted phase 2 engines which had a slightly different engine layout and was a bit more powerful too if I remember right. Your sport special would be a phase 2 engine.

Phase 1 also had a MAF sensor as well whereas phase 2 was a MAP instead.
