Default ej20 from 1998 impreza sport into 2001 sport special

will this fit as i have the 98 engine as mine is f@#%&ked any help greatly apriciated

I wouldn't bother as the MY1998 will have 115bhp and that's less that the engine that was already in it - a 2.5 ltr legacy engine is a popular upgrade though - it would have to be from a MY2000 and not a 2001 as the loom may need to be swapped over as well.

this is what i thought but the engine is different in my original engine the spark plugs sit the cylinder in the new one the plugs go in the rocker cover diferent dephs also diferernt wiring loom my question is this how do i get it all to fit as i have 2 engine now my original is hydrolocked and the new one is rong year :/

Swapping the cylinder heads over would be the easiest option - then all your original wiring harness and inlet manifold will fit the '98 engine.

In most cases, water ingress into the cylinders will bend a con-rod or damage a piston.

If it was my engine, I would pull the old heads off and check the condition of the valves and chambers - you can pour paraffin down the inlet and exhaust ports to see if the valves are sealing and take it from there.
