Default Screech noise at high boost

Hi there,

Thanks in advance for any help.

Got a 2001 Wrx which started making a tyre screeching noise today at high boost. The boost is set at 1.0 ish so it's not very high.

The boost kind of whistles up to this mark and then screeches near the top.

Is this normal? I've not noticed it before but don't really push it to be honest.

It may not be the boost, just what it seems like, any help is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Rob

Or worn bearings in the turbo allowing the compressor wheel to touch the housing

Thanks for the replies. Hoping its just a boost leak. How would I check to see if the turbo bearings are the cause ?

You will need to take intake hose off which is a pain, if its catching you should be able to see it as it ill have polished the housing/ visible wear to blades.

Also check for in/out play on the shaft, a little up/down movement is normal but not much

Thanks Fudgey, no it was not new, just off another one. I drove it for about 2 weeks before this issue and was driving it quite hard today before the screech started to come in.

Just a quick add, there doesn't seem to be any change in power during the screech,
still pulls like a train.
