Default Porting inlet manifold....opinions?

Morning,

I have a sti newage in let manifold and considering having it ported but not heard anyone else doing this so wondered whether its worth doing or not? Car that's 8 years old and an obvious mod.....if it's not being done there's usually a reason so just wondered?

Thanks! Adam

Not a very common mod on imprezas, I'd say.

Reason probably being that the effort/gain ratio means efforts would be better spent elsewhere. However, if you're doing it yourself, I.e free labour, it probably does not hurt to clean it up.

I'm not 100% sure port matching is always a good thing, at least not if you use then gaskets as guides for this, as there's a lot of material to remove then (might be better off blueing the heads and putting the manifolds on to see where you get contact and not)

As above, port matching is always a good thing and a few people have tried an Extrude hone/abrasive flow machining but there is always a worry about cleaning the manifold internally afterwards.

The late, great Harvey Smith was the master at this.
His ported manifolds scrolled lower and produced more torque than a stock one.

Have a word with Alyn at AS Performance, he may know.
