Default 2004 wrx over heating

My car was overheating so i have replaced the thermostat and let it run for half hour but the temp is still getting too high. The top hose is hot but the lower is cold. The heating is also coming through cold, Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Air lock perhaps, or maybe HG.

Have a sniff test done at a garage / dealer. This shows any exhaust gases in the coolant, if there is, the chances are it's HG failure.

Thanks seemed to be a massive airlock. Took just over an hour to clear, so glad it was not HG.

Nice one.

Did you "Burp" the cooling system? How did you get rid of the air lock?

Just let it run for ages then kept topping up the coolant and pressing the top and bottom hoses so the bubbles would come out. Took forever but glad it's sorted, worked out to be about a 2 litre lock.
