Default car struggling to start from cold-keeps turning over then fires up with smoke

my car has just started to struggle to start when cold ie 1st thing in the morning or when i leave work and its been sat for 10 hours

the car keeps turning over and over for maybe 10 seconds or so then fires up but gives out like a grey/white smoke as soon as its fires then its fine, doesnt smoke when on idle/under load etc

its has done this 2/3 times in the last week or so

all the other times it fires with the very 1st flick of the key.no back firing when driven or stalling at junctions etc

any ideas?

Do you leave the ignition on for a second or two before cranking the engine. If not its worth trying to allow the fuel pressure to fully build up before cranking

Is the battery decent as it's starting to get cold now does it turn over fast or slow ??? Or what's been mentioned above could be spark plug related were these changed when you fitted the engine

When my crank sensor went it would not start 1 in about 15 starts no smoke when it did it would just crank endlesly. You would give it a minute and would start within 2 seconds. So doubful its that.

Mines done this and when it did i would notice the ignition advance would reset on my data monitor as well, cleaned the crank and cam sensors and its been fine since, it would sometimes throw a cam sensor code up, even though it would not show the management light but the code was normally present when I checked for previously stored codes, and I would always wipe the codes after each time to see if it done the same, and every time it didn't start it would normally throw a code of some sort, but not always!

The fuel pump runs for a couple of seconds when you turn ignition on, and then stops, so the fuel system would be "primed" from very early on.
