Default Turbo flutter

Hey guys I know it's not been advised to do this on the vf35 turbo but I've put a blanking plate between my recirc and intercooler but the flutter sound is very faint can hardly hear it,

Is it necessary to have a seal between the plate and the cooler in case air is leaking out and not being forced back through the turbo?

Cheers Dan

Just get a massive filter on there and you will hear it . . not advisable though

I had mine mapped with standard air box, put a big air filter or and checked with my ODB2 monitor, was getting bad readings all over the place, don't change your air filter until you can get the map tweaked.

But yup once you get a nice big air filter on there you will get a nice bit of flutter.

Of course you need a decent seal? If it is leaking boost then you will be losing power and all sorts.

Yeah waiting till I can afford a nice turbo aswell, as I'm sure this will kill my vf35 although I've not known 1 to fail it will be my luck!

I know on my intercooler I have a black seal stuck to it, so tonight I'll put some sealing tape on my plate and see what difference it makes

It will be quiet with a tmic.
You need a fmic and induction kit for the proper sound then run dvless

A front mount is on my list dan, but for how much they are I'm trying to justify spending it, becuase i can buy some nice things for the clio for the same price

Think you've just commented on my YouTube video...

I'm on the standard TMIC, blanked BOV, RCM induction kit. Makes a nice noise.

Yeah Roger Clark Motorsport induction kit.

My VF35 was still going very strong until I sent it off to Harvey for some porting work and then he died.. and then I bought another turbo as I'm still yet to this day to get my turbo back lol.

To get flutter you just need an induction kit and a DV blanking plate, it is louder with a fmic, but a tmic weill still work, its all about the volume of air going back through the compressor that dictates the noise, so a fmic has a larger volume of air compared to a tmic so will be louder

Out of curiosity, what are the advantages to going DV-less?

I guess the turbo needs to be able to support a quick rush of air in the "wrong" direction, hence the flutter - what attributes of a turbo make this "safe"?

I have the flutter running a vf34 turbo with a fmic running dv blanked off. So far so good not sure how long the turbo will last but then looking to up grade in the near future anyway

From the research I have done, roller bearing turbos dont like it as much. But to be honest, have ran all my cars without and never had an issues. I run the scooby with a boost controller in the vac line to the DV, so it flutters on low boost, and on high boost it dumps. best of both worlds.

Thats the thing, its never been conclusively proved to damage the turbo, might last for years, might not, you take your chances!

Very true mate, never read about anyone using a vf34 turbo without a dv, or one that's broke because of dv less. Tbh I'm not particularly a fan of the sound either, yes the cars more responsive but then like you said you take your chances
