Arrow help needed. lambda fault

Hellow lads. Iv got my 2001 jap bugeye wrx and its failling the test on lambda reading too high. There is a engine light on in the dash. Iv read the fault and its saying bank 1 sensor 1 lambda. Iv put 2 sets of sensors into my car and still no joy. Iv checked continuity back from the lambda to the ecu and its all ok. I am however getting 14volts coming to the lambda on 2 wires I think its the white wire and blue wire. Its showing fault code p0031 which is a heater fault. I was thinking could the ecu be damaged somehow to be letting 14volts go to the sensor? I was fairly sure one of them wires are soppost to be negative/ground? Any help would be great lads? Its been to a few garages before I baught it and they couldnt figure it out.

Have you tried disconnecting the ecu and probing the wires on the lambda end to see if any are shorting across each other?

Iv disconnected the lambda and checked them 2 wires for continuity and it was giving no continuity so I took it that the wires werrent joined together or shorted

I'll have a look at a wiring diagram but like you I would have thought you should have a earth there.

See its been to a load of garages before I baught it off a friend and they all just kept changing the lambda sensors and the light still would not go off or fault erase. Im thinking that somthing shorted in the ecu and is not giving an earth to controll the lambda and instead is giving a 14.5 out, I wonder could this be the case?

The lambda sensor has a heater built in to it which would require the full operating voltage of the car. It should be returning a sine wave signal of up to 1 volt to the ECU on another wire. This is the lambda signal. I'd either have someone with good electronics knowledge with decent test equipment check it or else try a known good sensor.

Just noticed yours is showing a heater fault. Check the wiring hasn't rubbed through or got burnt by the exhaust etc. Check and change the heater fuse too.

Id say its definatly not the sensor atall because iv just fitted one whis known to be good and still no joy. The wiring is all good as iv checked. Where is this fuse located? Iv checked all inside down near drivers feet and also outside in the box near the battery. Is this the relay you are on about under the glove box, the brown one? I dont know how to check it but when I pull it out the car stops running

I'm nearly sure it's actually at the passenger side foot well near the fan! Have a look in there mate and I'll check the workshop manuals.

I just see a brown relay and some strange round relqy thing probably for fuel. I do know that one of my wires coming off the lambda is actually going to this brown relay

That'll be the heater wire coming from the relay and going to the lambda sensor. I've just got home, I'll look at the diagrams now!

Ok mate, you need to check fuse SBF-5 which is in the main fuse box. I think that's under the bonnet just behind the battery right against the wing. It has a black cover on it.

Try pulling and refitting the fuses as well, dry joints can happen easily

Can you have a look at the ECU and get the code from it? eBay is usually coming down with them. Plus the for sale section has loads if bugs being broken. Have a look in there and message the guys breaking them.
