Hiya all ...
I have a 2001 uk wrx ..... And have always run it on vpower , but last week found myself stuck and had to put in normal octane fuel , weird but the car seemed to run smother and even ( even I can't justify saying it lol ) boost slightly better , so I went back to my vpower ( this is my 15th subaru and its always been my rule ) ...
I have again put in a quarter tank of 95 and again found it smother and ( the easiest way to explain ) have a more defined boost , any ideas ? ....
Baffled lol

Don't know, but I have given up on v power and run tesco 99 for the same reasons (can't use less rons as mapped on 99ron (v power)

Right in not gonna jump in flying on this one Martin coz I know you know a fair bit about scoobies !

I too had to fill up ages ago with 95, I was planing on just getting to a shell garage off boost then brim with v power.

Long story short I ended up on full boost and thorght same as you.

Spoke to my mapper who plugged in and showed me and let me listen in real time to how bad 95 actually was

Cheers for the reply's , one of the reasons I asked is I wasn't sure if it was an illusion caused by a lower power output prior to boost due to the lower octane , or if it could have been a mapping issue ,
yeah this is my 15th on the row lol :-) , I had 7 leggys - a brat with a ej20 tub conversion , and this is my 7th impreza , tried other cars and hate them , I will try to get some piccys on later :-)
My current incarnation is a blues 2001 wrx wagon , and now looking for a brother for her , I want a 2001 sti salon again in blue .. I kinda like the bug eye ..
My only mods on this one are .....
Drilled and grooved disks all round .
Yellow stuff pads all round .
Hel braided hoses on the brakes and clutch
Cobra exhaust ... Cat back
In box k'n'n..
Sti intercooler
35mm lowering springs apexi
The rest is cosmetic , morretts on the front bigger scoop , grills top and bottom
So fairly standard , nothing crazy ... It's my daily drive ...
The sti will be for sexy weekends of fun lol

I have mostly always run my scoobies on Optimax/V-Power but I have to say that the last time I thought I'd try Tesco Momentum and it does drive smoother. Will give it another couple of tanks to decide but my engine seems to prefer it.

Then again, the ambiant temperature has dropped by 15 degrees in the last week so I guess that will have a major part to play in how happy my engine is.
