Default What engine to build????

Hi folks
Just thought id put this up and see what thoughts everyone has.
Im looking to rebuild my engine but im looking into what i want and the options ive got. Im currently running an 03 bugeye 2.0 STI on standard internals at 430bhp, the spool/turbo lag is a bit high see link https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...-spooling.html
What im looking for is a stronger engine that will withstand up to 500bhp but im also keen to improve spool and torque but still want power in the top end of the rev range.
So my question is what engine build to go with 2.1 stroker engine or the 2.5 forged option???
From what ive seen/been told the 2.5 forged seem to make loads of torque/better spool and the 2.1 stroker is stronger engine but doesnt produce as much torque and spool isnt as good. If anything ive said is incorrect plz feel free to correct me. My mind is kinda swaying in the direction of the 2.5 forge but im still undecided.
If anyone has used any of these engines before can you give some advice, engine spec or dyno printouts so as i may see how the fingers play out. If anyone else has any other thoughts on any other engine builds plz fire away.
Thanks

Looking to 'forge up' my 2.5 one thing I've been looking at recently is the CDB insert, looks like it could solve a few issues

If your target is 500 then a 2.5 block as std is really not the best choice, anything over 450 will be pushing the strength of the cylinder liners. If you can afford it a closed deck conversion solves this-http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271038214152&ssPageNam e=STRK:MESE:IT#ht_730wt_1161
A 2.1 will be a better option cost wise, as the blocks are stronger by design, heres my 2.1 kit-http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370892170473#ht_721wt_ 904
At the end of the day if you increase capacity you will gain spool and torque, you just need to make the decision on whats your ultimate bhp target and budget.

Its a 2.5 forged cbd i was looking at and im looking for 450-480bhp just trying to find a engine build that is strong/reliable but with good torque and improved spool. Not really looking for over 500bhp

If you said no more than 450, then a std scd 2.5 fully forged is ideal for your requirments. The fact you are saying 450-480 means the requirment of either a pinned block or cdb. I can supply both, plus all the parts to build it. A 2.5 block supplied outright pinned, bored and skimmed would be £750.

Im still looking into engine options aswell and still havnt made my mind but this may help the OP. Ive looked at a 2.33 but using the 2.5 and destroking it into a 2.33. More torque and still revs like a 2.0? I know it may not be strong as using the ej22 block but could thia still be a good option?

Hi there

Yours problem is not the engine, but turbo setup what you are running, speak to Alyn@AS Performance about the Up pipe

Second bit which can help to spool is upgrade yours turbo to Billet, speak to John@braveheart developments http://www.braveheartracingdevelopments.com/

If its not possible to upgrade to Billet change turbo to something like is MDX321T or MDX321V,SC46

But personally if I would go with new build,2.1L is great choice and have great spool up with any turbo(although GT35R can be too big for 2.1L),if its budget then 2.35L then is ultimate setup

2.5L not sure if I would touch, but many people running destroker'd 2.5L to 2.33-2.35L without the issue at high 500 or later 600bhp
