Default Type RA starting problem

Hello everybody

Got a starting problem on my 1995 WRX STi Type RA Impreza.

Starts perfect from cold and runs fine every time. When starting from warm, occasionally will not fire, no smell of excess fuel, just will not start. If I leave the car for an hour or two it will start straightaway.

I was told it could be the coolant temperature sender so have replaced it but still the same thing happens. The car has recently started to cut out once warm when idling and also will not then restart.

The CEL light has not come on. The strange thing is that the car fires up straightaway if bump-started downhill or by towing.

Running out of ideas to cure it and would appreciate any help - I can't keep parking on hills!

Cheers

Sounds like fuel pump . Check for loose connections under back seat.

Could be your crank shaft sensor. Try Taking it out and give it a clean (sensor under the Alternator, near the main pulley).

id try crank shaft sensor, they get cracks and once warm open up and fail, you did replace the right coolant temp sensor as there's two. one for the clocks and one for the ecu.

Thanks mate, checked the pump wiring and all seems to be ok. I can hear the pump priming the system when the starter key is turned to the second position.

I'm wondering whether it could be the starter switch itself - maybe the power to the ECU etc is breaking down when the key turns to the start position? This would maybe explain why the car starts ok when towed?

Cheers

Thanks for the reply, good of you to take the time. I replaced the 2-pin coolant sensor, the other has a spade connection and is for the temp guage?

Is there any way of testing the crank sensor before spending £100 or so on a new replacement? Would the crank or cam sensor problem show up as a CEL?

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestions for curing the problem.

Starting problem seems to be getting worse - took the car out tonight, started from cold ok and drove about 3 miles. Parked up for 3 hours, came to start to come home and it would not start. Got a push but it was reluctant to bump start. Drove home ok, switched off, tried to restart but no go.

Forgot to mention that it has a Blitz turbo timer fitted - could this be possible source of problem? Do they go wrong?

Cheers
