Normally if the ECU has put the car in limp mode it lights up the CEL. Faulty solenoid also usually throws a CEL...........is it a bugeye WRX?

No noises from the boost solenoid then I'd swap that over.........2 port solenoid cheap as chips for the bug as people swap them for a 3 port.

Strange the DENSO ECU hasn't spotted anything ?

connecting the green connectors on a bug wont work to check boost solenoid. take it off and put an earth and power to it, you should here it click,if it clicks try cleaning it out,if it makes no noise replace it. also try ecu reset, needs to be plugged in by someone with correct software for that unfortunately. its bit weird it has no cel on tough.

My WRX (2003) used to do something similar. It'd go into limp home mode if it had some bad fuel - no CEL, and the only thing that used to sort it was to disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes. Someone else on the forum a couple of weeks/months back had the same issue, and disconnecting the battery worked for him also.
