Default temp sender

I have had a bit of trouble fitting a temp gauge sender. I have removed the inter cooler and it seems that the grub bold above cylinder 3 is about 2mm too small.

Are there different sizes and Im unlucky to have the wrong one? Does anyone know what I am looking for (car is 2002 wrx).

Yes, the piece on the right is an adaptor.

You need to know the size of the sender threads, or make of sender, (should be same as gauge, obviously), and then order one to suit a Subaru.

Most senders are 1/8" NPT thread.

Thanks alcazar, without being think am i measuring the size of the bolt using my imperial sockets? (always knew they would be useful one day)

Edit: just googled and the pro sport senders are 1/8.

Its fitting into into the block that i am having trouble with. i brought this from matty and it came from a subaru so im thinking there might be two sizes and I have the wrong one?

The adaptor, the bit with the tapped hole in it's centre, should fit yours if it came from a scoob.

It's not easy to get at. Check it's threads, the ones in the block, look for signs of draging, burrs and old sealant.

Will be doing mine soon, is there any good pictured guides knocking around anywhere? For the pressure as well...

@winston69 this is a good place to start : link. The intercooler is easy to remove, the alternator a little more tricky but both can be done in an afternoon if you have the right tools.

I am trying to workout what part I need. In the pics below, the adapter bolt I have (17mm bolt) is just slightly to large. Are there two sizes of bolt that fit above cylinder 3 ?

They do look different.

Can you not phone a specialist who might sell you the correct part? Mine came from Area 52, but IIRC, lots do one.

I bought everything I needed to fit Prosport gauges from the guys at R Spec performance.

If your sender is for a Prosport it should be 1/8 npt.

Tell R spec you need an adaptor to go above cylinder 3 for a Scoob and they'll send you the right one. It'll only be a few quid.

The correct adaptor is LMA067 which has a 1/8 npt hole for the sender.

LMA067 is M18x1.5.

Thanks for all the help.

Rescue Dude was correct and part now fitted, it seems that I had a sump plug which was marginally too large.

This job would have been easier if I could have got hold of a lambda socket that fitted the temp sender (14mm) or the adaptor (23mm).
