Fuel cut??
Hey guys, I'm just looking for a bit of advice or opinions about fuel cut for overboost. Tonight, I was out for a longish run in my 1997 turbo 2000 after doing a lot of work to the brakes. The engine has only got 600 miles on it from being rebuilt with a new crank etc.
So, when I was in 4th gear rolling on the throttle to near full with the engine at about 3k rpm the turbo spooled up nicely and the boost increased. At about 5k rpm the car was at full boost and then suddenly cut out for a second. I can only assume thats the fuel cut working?? Would this be correct?
I have owned the car for a month and haven't really driven it much due to the calipers being seized etc. Rough idea of the spec below:
Blitz Nur spec 3" full system
Group A 3" downpipe
FMIC
Turbosmart BOV (not seized)
Turbosmart manual boost controller
Cone filter
Re-mapped standard ECU (also found a receipt from superchips????)
Various engine upgrades, cosworth pistons, rods, crank, hks head gaskets etc.
Last power run printout @ 297bhp
Having listed all of that, the car was not mapped after being rebuilt and stood for 2 years in dry storage.
I have read that de-cat systems can cause boost spikes and also non standard intake systems can do the same. The restrictor pill is still in the vacuum line too, I checked earlier.
Any opinions would be appreciated, I don't want to blow it up!!

Hi there, I've owned it for a month or so. The last power run was done 3 years ago, 1 year before the engine rebuild and not on the rebuilt unit.
It was built by a rally prep company who build many Subaru's for various people 2 years ago. It did 400 miles and was dry stored since then. I bought it in June and started to tidy everything up and use it as a second car.
I replaced a cracked knock sensor, repaired a cracked vacuum hose amongst other things and reset the ECU. Been driving it really easy and gradually increasing load recently. Everything seems to be working 100% and drives really well but it obviously has not been mapped since the rebuild. It has a manual boost controller fitted (which I have not altered) and could have been incorrectly set by the previous owner.

I've literally just been reading that!! I now understand why. I'll drop the oil out of it soon, I bet its fully synthetic stuff. I'll run mineral oil for a while and clock some more mileage up and change it back. Makes perfect sense now I've read that.
