Default Power Steering Issues

Hi I have an issue with my power steering pump, in that on start up it does not work or is very notchy (on or off) for say 30 seconds.

There are plenty of fluids in it with no leaks.

I will say that whilst its not working there is a squeak or squeal from the pump/belt.

I Have checked the belt tension and seems okay but the belt look like it needs replacing and I have bought a set.

The reason for this post is that the car is about to go in for a full belt change inc cambelt, water pump, idlers & tensioner etc and i wanted advice to wether this is a sign the pump is going !! if so i was thinking it would save on labour to get it changed at the sametime

The Car is a 2004 UK Spec STI Blobeye

Thanks in andvance for any advice

Ian

I had a prob with mine last winter but changed the fluid and it's been ok.I think you get to much water in old fluid.

I would say if you changed the fluid then maybe an air lock, I would say it's worth trying a new belt before mentioning the pump to the garage
