Default Help With More boost map tweek

Hi Guys,
I have an 03 Blobeye Uk STI which has a Cosworth panel filter, Walbro fuel pump, Afterburner exhaust (straight through from turbo) & Simtek ECU mapped by Enginetuner.
I have just added a boost guage which seems to peak about 1.4-1.45 hard to tell.

My question is what boost is safe for this, Just lacks that little bit more and was thinking about getting the map tweeked, What would you expect in terms of a safe BHP to get out of this.

Think is about 330bhp at the moment.

Any help would be great guys, Cant get it back to Engintuner as i live up in Co Durham now but sure John Pye could tweek the map.

Thanks

Dex

my car is very similiar to yours with almost the same identical upgrades and runs about the same boost. I believe you shouldnt run more than 1.5 (mines 1.4).

Unless you have the car dyno'ed you wont know the exact bhp but between 320-330 seems the norm for what you have there.

After I'd upgraded the exhaust, (*decatted), panel filter, fuel pump I decided on changing my headers and up-pipe to a set of Harvey ported ones.

By doing this the revs seemed to hold for longer and spool increased, generally I noticed a good improvement in driveability and throughput. If you want more power the only thing left for you is an turbo upgrade!

Am I assuming you have vf35 turbo as standard?

Hi Chet123,
Thanks for the reply mate, yeah standard vf35, Thats interesting about the HS Up pipes, heard really good things about em but surely to make the most a remap would be needed.
Not many people up my way know much about the Simtek TBH. Think I spen too much time comparing it to my Evo 6 which peaked at 1.8 something bar.

I am going to resist the turbo upgrade and just be happy with her I think, just thought a little more boost would have sorted her.

thanks for all the help mate.

When my forged classic was mapped by Bob Rawle, He specced no more than 1.5 bar on the standard head bolts.

Not necessarily, their could be a little more left in the VF35. Some good examples can go onto make 350bhp and even more with choice fuels.

Nothing wrong with that comparison although historically most have been a little reserved running decent boost on an effectively standard lump. I've run that boost on a VF35 producing some very nice torque figures and ultimately this will increase your on road performance. Just check out my garage for what decent boost on a TD04 can do
Seen as you have a Simtek why not use the second map to run a different fuel blend, some very good gains to be had here now combine that blend with some decent boost and you'll have a flyer

Default Help with more boost. map tweek

Hi Mo,

Wow you got me thinking now, So you think with what i have its possible to dump my second map for rubbish fuel, dont run it anyway and go for a map tweek on this switch and get more gains from my car.

Would it just be a map tweek I needed say turning the boost upto 1.5

really interested now, going to look at your garage now.

you the guys

Nps is neutral position switch. And ss is a typo on my account lol. Bloddy phones and fat fingers lol was meant to say 'as its not uncommon'

Yes the nps is in the gearbox. It is as it says. Tells the ecu whether the car is in a gear or neutral. If the ecu thinks the car is in neutral it doesnt activate the avs(variable valve timing). when the avs isnt working the car may seem slugish and slow to spool the turbo
