Default Facelift Blob eye Vs Hawk eye question

Hey all, I will be moving to a new area and new job soon which should liberate some much needed $$$. I plan on using it to upgrade to something newer in the driveway.

I know a decent amount about the differences between the bugeye and blobeye but I have decided to aim for the newest GD chassis possible which puts me towards a Hawkeye or Facelift blobeye

My question is this.

What are the differences between the 114 wheel ratio and nicer interior blob eye (2004 and 2005 shape) and the hawkeye which replaced it (2005-2007)

Are there any upsides to going with the newer car as in my market (New Zealand) there is a good $5,000 price difference.

Also its worth asking, are there any DOWNSIDES to the newer hawkeye model?

Bare in mind I will be buying a very stock/factory car and keeping it stock so the argument of buying the older one and spending $$$ to make it go even faster than the newer one would not work here.

At the very most my car would be ecu remapped and maybe a couple small Whiteline tweaks so I am not considering the value of having money for modifications from buying older models.

So essentially my decision must be made based on what subaru gives me out of the box, mod potential is irrelevant.

Also one last thing to add, in NZ we get JDM spec cars so that means no 2.5ltr to consider.

Kind regards to you all

Lunchie

5x114 cars have a wider track than the 5x100 cars

hawkeye simply because it looks better and you've none of the 2.5 worries as you say

I did have one other question, according to the link in this thread ALL normal JDM sti's have an open front diff and viscous center diff. How can that be true though if I have been in many normal JDM sti's with DCCD?

The Widetrack 114 blobs and the hawk STI's a virtually the same barring a slightly different inter cooler on the hawk and longer gearing on 5th and 6th other than that as far as I know the are mechanically the same, other than I'm not sure if you have the 2.0l or 2.5l hawk over there, obviously the 2.5 has a different block and turbo.

Okay assuming I go for the 2ltr is there ANY reason I should buy the Blobeye or the 07 sti hatch over the hawkeye sti?
