Default Impreza Will Only Rev Over 2k If Done Gradually

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. Just put an engine in a v2 1996 Wrx Sti. Starts up and when you try and put your foot down it hits 2k and as if its in limp home mode but if you have your foot on the throttle slightly and allow it to rev up gradually you can pass the limp home mode and get it to go as high as you want.

Would check the error codes but some muppet has stopped the engine management light from coming on , will take clocks out and see if bulb is missing, if mot will have to start tracing wires unless anyone knows any usual wires/etc that can be chopped to stop it coming on.

I started by changing the cam and crank sensor last night and checking the fuses. I'm now going to go change the Ecu and knock sensor and see where that gets me. If anyone can give any help to get a solution on this it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Where in Scotland are you? As that does not help us point you to a suitable establishment. If you are near Perth you have AWD motorsport just off the roundabout at the start of the A9.

Its quite a bit away, im east of Edinburgh. Slowly narrowing it down, changed ecu, made no difference. Fitted different clocks, got the maf sensor as a fault, replaced it and the fault disappeared but still ran bad.

Checked spark plugs and they are wet now so going to try and check the injectors/fuel rail/regulator and see if theres any problems there.

No other fault codes are coming up and checked the timing again and nothing is coming up.

Bit strange that the spark plugs are getting wet, will have to check spark later and make sure its a strong spark.... As long as the engine doesn't have to come back out for inspection lol.

Give S.W.Motorsport a call. They're between Ikea and Penicuik in the Bush Industrial Estate.

Check coil packs for signs of cracking, remove the coilpacks then the rubber end caps. worth checking as they do crack with age.

Hi, coil packs are all good no cracks. Pulled the engine out again this morning, checked timing marks and all lined up, but I had a notion to check for TDC on cylinder one and it wasn't there so think its been set up wrong, going to have a check of the engine tonight and get it back together and back in. When I started it, it did sound like the timing was out but when in place timing seemed to be spot on. Just going to have to check everything over now and hopefully the brief starting hasn't done any damage!
