Default Protecting paintwork

Hello, My summer project is to strip the interior, remove some aftermarket seat brackets and weld in the original supports. Last year I had the car bare metal painted all around which cost a small fortune, so I don't want to take any risks of molten metal getting embedded in the paint or windows(also new). What would be the best method to prevent any damage?

I was thinking of covering the entire body work and glass with damp towels or sheets. would this work?

Thank you.
