Default Dragging Classic Impreza

Hi there,

Hope someone can help.

I have a classic Impreza sport, 2.0l, 1999, petrol, manual with a brake dragging issue.

I had this problem ever since I brought it. Since buying the car I have replaced the clutch, front brake lines, front callipers and front discs but the problem is still there. I’ve also cleaned the rear drums.

It seems to be a bit temperamental – it could be dragging right from when I first start driving or it could be fine until I use my brakes or reverse (it seems to be dragging worse after I reverse).

I was on a small hill at the weekend, reversed, and the car started dragging, so I pulled forward into the space without the handbrake on in 1st gear and the car held. I then took the car out of gear with the clutch still in and the handbrake still on, and the car still held. I then took the clutch out and it started rolling back.

I’ve read something about some Impreza’s having a “hill holding” mechanism, and I’m not sure if this could be an issue I’m having? I’ve had it in a couple of garages but they’ve not been able to solve the issue. Not sure if this is a clutch issue or something to do with the brakes somewhere. I have thought about disabling the "hill holding" mechanism but not sure what I'm looking for.

Any one help?

Thanks,
Jamie
