96 COOLANT TEMP GUAGE
Hi all, 1996 import wrx. The coolant temp guage does not work, i thought the single spade connector controlled the temp guage but fitted a new one and still not working. Going to remove clocks next but wanted to check that its defo the single spade controls and not the brown 2 pin sender. Also if the clocks are connected ok what is the wiring situation from sender to clocks? Is it one single wire? I did have a disc with wiring diagrams etc on but cant find it for love nor money!
Thanks in advance,
Spen

If you earth the connection out it will shoot the needle to the top showing at least the wiring is good/there is a connection etc
Is the car running o.k, gets hot from the air vents etc, do you have a thermostat fitted etc, its not running cold all the time etc is it ????

Thanks for the rapid replies, will try earthing it out tomorrow. I just removed my clocks and as per older molested scoobs i found some horrors! I will add pics in a mo but what appears to be at the back of the temp guage there are 3 wires hanging, 2 of which are old speaker wires. Im guessing this was some kind of remoted coolant temperature?? Car gets hot and blows hot air would just be nice to know how hot!!
Those are defo NOT OE.
Can you not trace them to wherever they go?
My guess is that whoever had the car before fitted some sort of extra sender and used the temperature gauge to read it.
They may be shorted out at the other end, causing the gauge to read zero.

Clocks open up easily, the gauge will be bolted in, usually the bolts carry the current.
While you have them open, do yourself a favour and swap out all the illumination bulbs for new ones, plus check ALL the wiring tracks for cracks, burning etc.

Ok thanks, yeah I will check tracks arnt damaged to guage but I think that loose wiring at back killed it! And yeah defo a good call on the bulbs! Will let you know how I get on!
