Default Ej20G Valve-train option

Hi All,

I am in the process of purchasing parts for my Ej20G about to be rebuilt.

I have have hit a wall when trying to research the valve train!!

It seems no one makes valve springs for the jdm EJ20G/K.... Do the Ej205 valve springs and retainers fit in the Ej20G head?

The rest of the engine is a pretty standard rebuild with forged bottom end.

The engine has around 90,000km on it has been running around 350hp. Would love to create a higher revving engine if possible...

Any tips on what I should be buying or looking into regarding valve train would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

I like it this way, for V3/V4:

Supertech SIVN1016 inlet valves.
Supertech SEVI1016 exhaust valves (this is the inconel version).
Brian Crower BC0600 springs (wound in the US by PAC) and titanium retainer kit.
Brian Crower BC2960 locks.

Finch Motorsport has, previously, made up some spring seats with an outer retaining lip, to get the correct installed spring height. Just about to have another set made.

Then, as a nice finishing touch (it's what I wanted ), we used 16 x 33mm diameter H6/ez30r exhaust buckets. 30g each with integral shims - nice weight saving.

I don't know, how or if, the bc0600 (listed for ej257) kit would work with standard v3/4 valves. The spring in that kit is bc1600:
Seat: 1.420" @ 80 lbs / Open: 1.000" @ 178 lbs / Coil Bind: 0.850" (no machine work required).

NB. The Supertech valves mentioned above, are a 1mm larger head diameter than V3/4.

In addition, also used:
Supertech GDE-SUEJ6-I Manganese bronze guides
Supertech GDE-SUEJ6-E Manganese bronze guides
Supertech VS-TS6I stem seals
Supertech VS-TS6E stem seals

Hi there

Personally I wouldn't use BC,I've read and heard few horror stories about their cams and spring combo, rather I would use different make(Kelford etc)

BC valve train products use the same cam core as GSC, CROWER and JWT. BC valve springs are wound in Michigan by PAC Racing who also make them for COMP, KIGGLEY and GSC: Fact.

They can be made with same components or at same company but never will be same, but mainly issue with the BC is quality/reliability and due this I wouldn't touch them

Fact is only one, they're not most reliable springs/cams on the market

Just ask who running high BHP if they would consider running something from BC,answer will be NO

We are will be running Kelford springs and Kelford cams with Supertech valves

Thanks do the info. Maybe I will look into a super tech kit.

Does anyone know if I buy a whole kit ( valves, springs retainers) for the ej205. If they will fit in the old phase 1 heads without machining?

I'm very new to the valve train modding...after any info possible.

I'm chasing 400hp crank. daily driven RELIABLE road car.

Thanks
Dan

A cam is a blank + grind - no components
A valve spring is wound metal - no components
You're perhaps not aware, that certain BC product lines are sourced in the US

Fact is only one, they're not most reliable springs/cams on the market

A fact requires evidence - not your opinion.

Just ask who running high BHP if they would consider running something from BC,answer will be NO

BC I-beam rods, made in California. Excellent for the price, and light, for an I-beam.

We are will be running Kelford springs and Kelford cams with Supertech valves

Kelford don't make valve springs for V3/4. So that info is of no help to the OP.

If they're made in USA,that's only good, just have look why Cosworth using rather for their cams Kelford and for rods using Carrillo

About the quality/reliability search on other forums about the BC,I'm not slating BC but I wouldn't use on my build and wouldn't recommend to anyone

Rods, again is down to the personal preference,we are went with Carrillo

If Kelford doesn't making those springs for V3/V4,other companies making them

You can ask here or over 22B how many people or how many engine builders running or using BC,you will probably find handful people or if you will find someone

Sometimes is worth to spend more
