Default rebuild advice please ej20g

hi all,

I know this has been discussed 2000 times already but I cant seem to make up my mind on this.

this is what was suggested by the engine builder:

Subaru EJ20G Reconditioned Block
Reconditioned EJ20 Phase 1 2.0L Crankshaft
Manley H-Beam Forged Rods
CP Piston & Ring Set for Subaru EJ20 WRX - Bore (93mm) - Size (+1.0mm) - Compression Ratio (8.5)
ACL Race Main Bearings - EJ20G/EJ20K - Phase 1
ACL Race Rod Bearings - EJ20/25
ARP Head Studs - EJ20/EJ25
Cometic Subaru EJ20GN Turbo 93mm .027 inch MLS Head Gasket DOHC 16V Turbo

I have heard some guys telling me that ACL is not good. Can anyone comment on that? What would you choose instead then?
And what about the ARP head studs? any good, or would you choose OEM instead?

Goal is 400-450 bhp with E85. The rest of the mods are taken care of.
Thanks!

All looks good to me, the only question parts wise is the re-conditioned crank? The problems I generally see with 'non proffesional' buillds are things not being in spec (not measure correctly) eg bores sizes-pistons, cranks worn, ring gaps etc etc. If this is all ok and its put together right it should be fine. I use arp head studs alot they are better than std bolts by far. ACL bearings are as good as any for this spec.

Loads of people using ACL and never heard any negative comments.

ARP studs everytime, way better than standard. ARP`s wont stretch and let the heads lift under high boost like standard ones. Espec at the hp you`re looking at.

Should your head gasket be 0.051" for the Ej20G?

I only comment from my experience but I do not use ACL bearings, not going to say why either. Here some advise if you wish to consider.

Oem main bearings and Mahle motorsport big end bearings are in all my builds, as does a very well known respected tuner aswell. Wrc bearings in my wrc builds but very costly and no need for your engine, I run the oem mains/mahle big ends in my competition/time attack engines.

As WMS crank recon is not advised on phase 1 cranks & if you can stretch budget get hold of a v9 nitride rear thrust crank, yes you will need to rear thrust block but then your package will be mega.

However if your crank just needs light journal polish then it will work fine, dont advise grinding though.

All the best with build.

I'm not really that technical, but could you explain why? and what do the others say about that?
Is the compression good for E85?
