Boost that is attained over and above the planned boost. Think of it as overshooting a target. This normally happens in highload/differing environment conditions (like now as it's cold).

It's when there is too much of a good thing!
Over fed
Over consumption of booze
Over sexed.. etc..

Basically it's too much boost pressure.
The standard car has a boost limit. If it's exceeded for any reason, such as stuck wastegate, leaky actuator feed, over ambitious tweaking etc, it'll cut the engine due to "overboost". That's a good thing of course as it stops you blowing the motor up.

You can raise the boost limits of course, which is what tuning is all about, but be careful!

If it's faulty, fix it. If it isn't faulty but you just want to go faster, find a very nice and knowledgeable man to help you.
