Default Opinions on this exhaust..

Hi guys, I currently have this exhaust system on my car:

http://www.tsl-motorsport.co.uk/newsite/products.php?nav=300008&section=300008&detail=32

As you can see it comes with a 100 cell sports cat on the sports cat.

My plan is to take the system to a specialist exhaust company, get them to cut out the cat and weld in a piece on stainless tubing, to create a full decat.

The reason im doing this is because the system is a push fit design, and I cant buy a decat down pipe to fit it (anyone who knows of one please let me know!)

I then want a remap to hopefully release so more power

Ive heard some bad things about this exhaust though, one reputable tuner stated:

"That system is not good the downpipe is not open neck and will be a restriction and impact on wastegate control as it is."

and

"Look at the downpipe, its got a flat plate that bolts to the turbo exit, that plate blocks and restricts the wastegate, it can be used but its certainly not optimum, also its custom slip jointed as far as I can see which makes it impossible to replace/maintain"

What are your opinions on the exhaust? And also my idea of cutting out the cat and welding in a piece of stainless tubing there? Do you agree with the above comments?

Any advice welcome, cheers Lewis

How are you going to get it mot'ed without the cats? The downpipe does look fairly thin

I have the full oem exhaust to put on come mot time. Yea I see your point, the down pipe does look pretty thin. Must be 2.5" bore

Would you recommend I get a new system instead of cutting out the cat and welding a piece of stainless tubing there?

Cheers

Hi tommy. Reason for this is because I don't want to fork out a load of cash for a full new system. This tsl system was nearly a £1000 brand new. To get the cat on the downpipe cut out would only cost £90, giving me a full decat system for a lot cheaper than buying whole new system.

I just want someone to verify that this isn't a good system, judging by the comments I've had previously.

From the look of it I Woudnt rate it, I would get a well known second hand exhaust system, have it steamed cleaned and polished and it will look brand new.

Why not buy a second hand downpipe off the breaking section on here and sell your sports cat downpipe on?

A decat downpipe tends to be cheaper to come across than a sports cat item, so you could take the new downpipe and have the flange removed and made in to a slip joint rather than cutting the cat out to weld a pipe in place, as all the welds could cause a little restriction if not flattened down on the inside of the pipe ( should it get that hot ) and then you could sell the sports cat item and probably break even or there abouts, where as you still have to pay to have that cat removed and re welded, and if you have been told that the downpipe you have may not be the best then why would you want to modify it your just trying to flog a dead horse in reality IMO

+1 as said just buy a decent second hand exhaust.

your just messing with an exhaust thats not ideal to start with and the end result still probably wont be as good as a decent decat system.

Good advice buddy thanks, didn't think of getting a decat down pipe modified to fit a push fit design. Although I'm not sure anyone would be interested in buying my sports cat down pipe as its push fit, unless they want to convert it into a bolt on!

I just need to confirm what bore my tsl system is, as if its 2.5" I would probably be better cutting my losses and going for a full 3" Decated system, as I want to go over 350 bhp In the future .

Thanks

if it was mine i would either have the exhaust modified to bell mouth or take it off complete and sell as a whole, they were expensive when new and still fetch a decent price second hand, there is one in this link although not sure why this one is bell mouth and yours isn't. https://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-par...n-exhaust.html

If I was to replace the whole system, which one would be a good 3" bore one to go for?

I like the look of milltek, Hayward and scott and also the vortex afterburner.

Any suggestions?
