Default Overheating!!

Good morning fellow scooby-ists.
I have a forester STI and my radiator top hose split yesterday morning. I "limped"it to work whereupon I repaired the hose, topped the water up and tried the engine. I thought this was fine until I tried to drive it and although the hose is holding, the temperature guage is going sky high as soon as I rev the engine.
I have it booked in at a garage tomorrow morning - I'm thinking this could be serious!!!! Any thoughts to soften my dread?

Air lock.

How did you fill the water up?
Best way to do it is via the top rad hose until it pours out of the top of the rad then re-connect, then start the engine and top up through the expansion tank while squeezing the top hose to 'burp' the system.

My first thoughts would be an airlock too, especially after a hose split. I had the same on my one.

Thanks guys - tried that and the temperature is staying stable
Ran it round for 10 minutes and all appears OK temperature wise.
Still got a bit of steam rising from the bowels of the engine so I'll still take it in tomorrow
