Been To Look At A New Car And Need Help
Hi
I have been to view a new car today, a 57 plate Subaru Impreza Wrx Hatchback with the 2.5 turbo engine
There was a couple of things that concerned me but the main thing that concerned me was when I took the oil cap off. There was an almost mustard like yellow gunk on and around the oil cap and housing, not lots but still a good bit
After questioning the dealer about it being the headgasket he told me that it was just condensation and the headgasket was fine, I also noticed a bit of white smoke coming from the exhaust
However, I dont want to spend thousands on the car for it to need its headgasket doing. It has done 53000 miless and had full history, it was just a little off putting ewhen I saw it
What would you guys say, is this normal or should I stay away
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks Aaron

Ask for them to do a compression test on it, sometimes a little build up can happen due to moisture, esp if they have just been starting it up now and again just to keep the battery charged it would not of been reaching operating temp

If interested in the car I would be talking to the dealer and arranging a long test drive of around 30 minutes where you can get the car up to a good temperature and drive it hard on boost and off boost. Any problems are likely to show their heads then. You may find the mayo looking stuff will disappear when it's been ran to temp for a while.
