Idle control valve
eh all,
Anyone bought a replacement idle control valve? Just wonder how much one is as I;m not sure mines working 100% correctly but it's hard to prove.

I'm not to sure on the Newage icv's on price I no a they cost about £260 - £280 brand new on a v5-v6 classic so I would imaging there is going to be a big price tag also with Newage icv.
If u want a price check out " Import car parts " online there prices are generally pretty good... But if it was me I would either speak to Scott@scoobyspares or matt @ poleposition on here and get a good 1 second hand for a fraction of the price.

How did you know it was gone? Was it revving sometimes and not others? That's what I'm getting. I'm trying to map her and keep getting variance on idle, it's driving me up the wall.

Already done that cheers, and changed the gasket a little while back. Just removed it again and little dirt but I wonder if the shaft is sticking, only trouble is the screws holding the plastic part are chewing as they're so soft.

In that case I would try picking up another and see if that make a diffrence, if u have already given it a good clean I don't see that u have too many options speak to Scott or matt I'm sure they will be able to help u out, but until u have tested another u don't no if that's the issue its a real pita but what else can u do

I left my car standing for a few weeks over Christmas as I needed some work done and didn't have time, when I finally did find the time when starting the car my idle was all over the place, and a cel came up. There is a quite effective fix for these valves which I found very easy and its now like a new one.
You will need to open the valve up, use the correct security bit so that you don't round the heads off the screws, then spray some wd40 around and into to shaft. ( the shaft on mine felt very notchy when turning by hand )
Then with a drill chuck around the shaft being careful not to damage the magnet, slowly spin the drill up and keep spraying until the shaft feels nice and smooth, replace the old gasket for a new one as the old ones warp, refit the icv and clear any codes if any have been thrown up.
Hope this helps as it saved me money. Jon

I dont believe it, although I cleaned the ICV a while back the cars hardly been used, checked it and the shaft is slightly catching on rotation plus feels like there's resistance the whole way around. Cleaned it and then used WD and it was better but not perfect so kept going through clean cycle and then oil with spinning and now it's free to spin without any resistance at all. I really hope this stops my issue of idle changing, thanks for advice all

Hmm possibly silly question but when you take off the sensor part of the ICV, the plastic part, there's a shaft with a tag at the end of it which controls the position of the valve via magnets by looks of it. How do you know if you've got the position of that tag correct? Not started her yet as still some other bits to try but wonder if I've refitted the plastic part to valve correctly, guide doens't mention it.

I give up with my oe idle control valve, fourth time I've cleaned it, used a drill etc to get it clean and it's spinning lovely the next min it;s sticking. I think the bearing is fubar. Time for another one. It's really strange as you can spin it so free, next min rotate slowing and it almost completely sticks like it has swarf in it or something.
