Default Don't know what to do

Hi people. I really don't know what to do.
Last nite I was just cheakin bits over on my hawkeye sti and when I took off the rad cap there was a black oily gunk on the cap about 10mm thick.
I got a sniff test done today and the garage said the colour of the liquid used in the test slightly turned lighter quicken early signs of head gasket. Now talking to other people about it and they are saying normally the gunk should be a creamy colour not black. And I asked about it earlier on here and some one said sounds
highly unusual for the head gasket to fail and blow into an oilway, generally they blow from head into combustion chamber and you see water problems

possible its simply condensation which is common at this time of year in particular if the car is used for short trips

Now could it be this and the garage was trying to have me over or could it be head gasket.

Help please

James

Have you noticed any problems with the car (overheating,no heat coming out of the blowers?)

Yeah the gunk would be creamy as the oil/water mixture forms an emulsion.

What does the gunk feel and smell like?

If the car is running alright, apart from the slight lumpiness, then I wouldn't worry about it or if in doubt take it to another garage, a Subaru specialist preferably (unless the garage you took it too was one lol)

This could be down to mixing different coolants, would drain it out flush with water and refill with correct coolant, worth a try, hopefully not the hg
