For wot you would pay for a 2nd hand simtec you could get the much improved esl new.

I believe around the £550 mark fitted and mapped you pay £600+ for a 2nd hand simtec.

Wouldn't this need to be then remapped to suit your car?

I would think that would cost another couple of hundred so will be almost as much as buying new.

You still have to get it mapped or at least checked by a mapper

This.

I bought an ECUteked ECU for £140 already mapped/liecensed to Bob Rawle. I contacted him regards mapping cost for a fresh map and it was under £300.

So for £420 I got the ECU and custom map to my car. some pleaces/mappers charge a little more due to license fees on the software etc. so I saved myself around £100 with no compromise on service.

I wouldn't simply buy an ECU and plug/play unless the map was generic and a lot safer than a custom map. Every car is slightly different hense different results when mapped. You'd be foolish to think you can plug and play unless actually advised to by a respected mapper.

I'm after buying 1 that's been mapped with small mods as I'm only after 300 bhp tops, if I can get 1 for the right price and licence then it's a start,I'm fully aware that it'll need tweaking to suit

If you fit a pre mapped ecu and its not set for your car i think you budget will be going in a rebuild after your engine goes pop, I would save for a bit longer till you can afford a ecu and the cost to get it mapped imho.

It won't go pop if its a very conservative map , maybe something along the lines of a ppp
But doing it that way will be ultimately more expensive
Because as sure as eggs is eggs you will want more power and need it mapping again for future mods

What's to consider? I get an ecu with a licence put the additional mods on I want then get it tweaked, walbro and a filter will get me 280,running on v power and ngk plugs,if you get your ecu mapped twice does that mean its getting weaker, nah dint think so, so brand new or used, what's the difference

You won't just get the mapped "tweaked" though. You'll more than likely require a fresh map minus the license fee. That will cost around £300. Unless (and I'll gladly be corrected), a mapper will tweak a map from one car to another.

Keep my mouth shut then i said get a esl for less than a simtec you "far to much pal" but now you can afford a ecu and tweek at the end of the day you can't get 300bhp with out a map.

Had 2 pm's off well known mappers saying they'll tweak an ecu for 150 quid,so if I paid 200 for an ecu, I'm sure that comes in less than a new ecutec or simtec or even the new esl,

Nice one, you'll get it properly sorted and customised for your car for not a lot of money then

I will have a link G3 with sensors and wiring to suit a99-00 car. Runs maf-less and has antilag, having it taken out by enginetuner today and having a alcatek with toucan fitted. It will need a remap, was last done by Bob Rawle. £350
